J & S General Contracting is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant to support the daily financial operations of our growing construction company. This position is responsible for managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with project cost tracking, and supporting administrative accounting processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience in bookkeeping, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with QuickBooks. Construction industry experience is preferred but not required.


key responsibilities:

Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding of expenses.

  • Verify invoice approvals and supporting documentation.

  • Prepare and track vendor payments.

  • Maintain vendor records and W-9 documentation.

Accounts Receivable

  • Assist with customer invoices and payment requests.

  • Record and track incoming payments.

  • Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collection efforts.

  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding account status.

Project Support

  • Assist with basic project and job cost tracking.

  • Enter project-related expenses and maintain cost records.

  • Support project managers with financial documentation as needed.

Construction Administration

  • Process and track lien waivers.

  • Maintain tax-exempt certificates and vendor compliance documentation.

  • Organize subcontractor and supplier records.

  • Assist with contract and project file administration.

Recordkeeping & General Administration

  • Maintain organized digital and paper financial records.

  • Assist management with reports and information requests.

  • Support office operations and administrative duties as assigned.


  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.

  • Experience with QuickBooks required.

  • Construction industry experience preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
